Welcome to the Welcome Centre

Welcome to the Cheetham and Crumpsall Welcome Centre (CCWC) blog. We've set up this page to tell you more about CCWC and what we have to offer you.

The Cheetham and Crumpsall Welcome Centre is based in Trinity United Church on Cheetham Hill Road. It was set up by local Health Visitors, the Black Health Agency, Cheetham Parish and other organisations. Its vision is to provide individuals and families new to the area (and not so new!) with a friendly environment where they can receive advice, resources to improve their way they live, healthy food and snacks, and a place for children to play.

CCWC is open for two half-days a week: from 13.00-16.00 on Thursday and from 10.30-13.30 on Friday.

Currently the centre provides:

  • information and support to access health services and other health related information

  • legal advice on a number of issues

  • advice on employment, training, education, volunteering, benefits & entitlements, housing, immigration, domestic violence, etc.

  • signposting to local service providers

  • support on parenting issues

  • activities for parents/carers and young people

  • emotional support and befriending for new arrivals

  • development opportunities for volunteers

  • form-filling support

  • person-centred counselling

  • good quality second-hand clothing and household goods

  • healthy snacks and drinks

  • access to interpreters/bilingual volunteers/language line

Please check back soon to find out more about the Welcome Centre and current activities, and to find out more about our staff, volunteers and regular visitors.

Hi
I'm the co-ordinator of the Environment Network for Manchester. I'm running a series of three funding workshops aimed at environmental groups and anyone interested in food and growing projects. One is at the Cheetham Hill Welcome Centre, so if you could promote it, that would be great.

SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY FOOD… an introduction to funding and planning for
community groups
Methodist Central Hall, Oldham Street, Thursday 21 February, 6 - 8 pm

Are you a community group interested in making locally grown food
accessible and affordable to local communities? Then come along and find
out from Marc Lupson from the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts about
their new Big Lottery funding scheme which has £50 million to give away.

Eligible projects could include:
- growing, processing, marketing and distributing local food;
- awareness raising and education about cultural food diversity and
growing of exotic foods from other regions of the world;
- creation of opportunities for learning and the development of skills
through voluntary training and job creation;
- composting and raising awareness of the benefits of such activities.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE … action planning and funding information for
Manchester’s environmental groups

As a follow up to the 'Sustainable Community Food’ event and if you
can't make that one, two workshops are being run; one in Cheetham Hill
and one in Wythenshawe.
These will give:
- an overview of the Big Lottery Local Food Programme and general
support on making a good application;
- an insight into planning effective environmental projects
- advice on how to recognise the assets your group has and an overview
of available funds

Venue: Cheetham and Crumpsall Welcome Centre, Trinity Church, corner of
Cheetham Hill Road and Green Hill Road, M8 9LE
Date and time: Thursday 28 February, 6pm - 8pm
